  The Weight You Carry

You're not a first responder. You don't wear a badge. You don't drive a rig with lights and sirens.

But you show up after the crisis is over.

You clean up what no one else can stomach. You witness suffering most people will never see. You hold the weight of grief, trauma, and death — and then you clock out like it was just another day.

Disaster cleanup crews. Coroners and medical examiners. Social workers. Veterinarians and vet techs.

You face emotional exposure that would break most people. And yet, there's no peer support system waiting for you. No debrief. No acknowledgment. No mental PPE.

Just the quiet expectation that you'll keep showing up.

You've been conditioned to compartmentalize. To stay professional. To not let it get to you.

But it does get to you.

Maybe it's the nightmares. The emotional numbness. The irritability at home. The exhaustion that rest doesn't fix.

Maybe it's the realization that you've been carrying this alone for years.

You're not broken. You're not weak.

You're in survival mode — and it's time to shift into recovery mode.

What You'll Learn in The Second Shift

Who This Is For

Why Now

You've been told to be strong. You've been told that this is just part of the job. You've been told that if you can't handle it, maybe you're in the wrong profession.

But here's the truth: You've handled more than most people ever will. And the fact that you're still standing doesn't mean you're fine. It means you've been surviving.

This course gives you permission to stop just surviving — and start recovering.

You don't have to wait until you hit rock bottom. You don't have to earn your healing by breaking first. You're allowed to protect yourself before the damage becomes permanent.

This course is your Mental PPE. And you deserve it now.

About Rob Z. Christensen

Rob Z. Christensen is a career firefighter with over 33 years of experience in emergency response, fire service leadership, and performance psychology at the Boise Fire Department.

During his time in the fire service, Rob had the rare privilege of working within a system that invested heavily in mental PPE — peer support programs, performance psychology, and trauma-informed wellness training. He witnessed firsthand how these tools saved careers, relationships, and lives.

But he also recognized a painful truth: most professions that face trauma daily don't have access to these same protections. Disaster cleanup crews. Coroners. Vet techs. Social workers. They show up to the hardest scenes — and then go home alone with no support system.

Wellness Forward was created to change that.

Rob's work has been featured in The New York Times, and his documentary on fire service culture has reached audiences nationwide.
